From the book
It must have been the bullet that rattled my brains, because I seemed to be hearing the events of that terrible day: the bullet exploding on the rock and in my mind’s eye, I could see Spadafora fall with his hands to his face. The sheer horror and adrenalin of the moment returned like a bolt from the blue.
‘It be yourn, boy,’ a ghostly, hollow voice in my head whispered. * * * * * The inspector’s eyes sparkled as if someone had cracked a joke. He looked at the paper and then his eyes lifted to Gran’s.
‘So what’s this mean, Mrs Hubert?’
‘I do believe it’s the exact geographical location of the very legendary Fiend’s gold.’
Spadafora slipped the piece of paper into his breast pocket.
‘And what if it is?’ he said with a smirk. Gran walked closer to him and whispered something into his ear. Whatever she said surprised him. You could tell by the expression on his face.
‘Alright,’ he said and marched out of the room.
